Your Pets and New Year’s Resolutions
Happy New Year!!
Today’s topic: Your Pets and New Year’s Resolutions
Many people make New Year’s resolutions for themselves but have you thought about making them for your pets as well? Perhaps Sparky is a little chunky and needs to lose some weight? Or does Fluffy need to get more exercise? How about making a resolution for preventative care? If your dog or cat isn’t spayed or neutered, make that your top goal. Having your pet altered lengthens their life expectancy and it prevents unwanted litters. If you have trouble paying for the operation, many pet advocacy groups will assist and some veterinarians will provide low cost spay/neuter.The next goal should be to keep current on immunizations. These are intended to keep your furry critter as healthy as possible and to make sure they live a long life. Other items to consider are micro-chipping, dental cleaning, heartworm and flea prevention. What? You say you don’t have a pet yet? Check out the animal rescue sites in your area or Petfinder.com. Rescuing can be very rewarding but you will need to do your homework…I’ll blog on that topic in a future post. If you’re not ready to get your life long pal, consider volunteering at the animal shelter or providing them with much needed supplies. Here is to 2009 and another enjoyable year with your pets!
